DESILVA HANDICAP TRUST & SPECIAL SCHOOL FOR INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY CHILDRENS

1. Special School for intellectual challenged

 We are implementing 1 special schools for intellectual challenged There are 25 Mentally Retarded Children between the age group of 5-17 years in Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary, Pre-vocational with vocational teachers. specially Trained teachers to Teach hem and Train them as per the guidelines given by the Govt. the class room teachings including following.

1 . Activities of daily Living
2 .Basic Concepts
3 . Functional & Academic Skills
4 .Speech Therapy
5 .Physiotherapy
6. Behavioral Modification
7 . Yoga
8 .Therapies Music and Dance Training

This wing of the special school consist of 2 classes with 2 special teachers and 1 physiotherapy to take care of them in teaching the daily living activities and small easy lessons with the help of toys, models, and charts depending upon their Mental ability and learning capacity. These Intellectual Challenged children are exposed to practical and demonstration classes like Bathing, brushing, use of toilets, washing clothes, cooking, Tea preparation and prayer etc.

we conduct Sports and Cultural Meet for disabled children through the schools every year. We conduct the sports for running race, eating race, lemon & spoon, frog race, collecting stones and musical chair. We did competition like writing, drawing, singing, dancing and speech. Every child should participate all the programs whether games, competition or any other cultural activity as they like. All of them got prize for their performance. This helps to increase their confident level, make wish to participate and to develop their ability in physical activity as well as personal restructure. we trained the Parents how to improve their child’s daily activities and advice them to help their child to do that activities at home by their own

2. Vocational Training

The special education given to the disabled children will be of no use unless the disabled children get the power of earning their livelihood independently. Hence in order to enable the Disabled children to earn their livelihood and for economic Independence, different types of vocational trainings like envelop covers, thread jewelers and paper bags making etc .

3. Speech Therapy

The greatest problem for the Mentally Challenged students is the lack of speech and communication ability. the Mentally Challenged students are subjected to speech development therapy regularly by expert teachers with the help of speech equipment. By this process the mentally retarded children slowly develop in due course of time the ability to speak and express their feelings to a great extent which ultimately becomes a great help for them to communicate properly with the other normal people of the society where they live in

4. Physiotherapy

The disabled children specially the Mentally Retarded students with Multiple Disabilities are subjected to physiotherapy classes for inducing mobility to their appendages and make them active and energetic to move from place to place initially with the help of the trainer and later independently. This therapy also initiates an urge with them for undertaking small works in the vocational training classes while tuning their brain and toning up their muscles to give necessary commands to the other parts of the body as per the need and the situational demand.

5. Games & sports therapy

All the disabled children’s are motivated to take part in different types of games and sports activities to stimulate and activate the dull brain to take interest to move along with other children which ultimately initiates the mind and brain development and slowly creates interest in them to imitate other children in their different activities

6. Parent Training Program

The Institute offers free counseling services by trained professionals to the family members of the Mentally Retarded students depending upon their family needs either individually or in groups regarding their care & welfare of the disabled.

7. Home Based Training (Special Education on Wheels)

According to survey 20 severally affected Mentally Retarded students in around kotagiri Now, we are providing, training to handle the several MR persons, in Daily Living skills and other basic activities. The disabled students getting Home based training. providing the following services. Activities of Daily Living Skills Mobility skills to needed persons Develop the basic Communication skills  Awareness to Parents, Guardians  Physiotherapy and other therapeutic services.

Proper Educational service / Placements after training. Periodical academic assessment.

8.UDID

Our foundation Uploading of udid for persons with disabilities the transferees went home and received the application and uploaded it through the system.

9.covid 19

  1. During the corona period we was provided as much as we could to the families of the disabled and to the village of widows and tribal people with vegetables &rice.
  2. Medial assistance was provided to disabled students belonging to our foundation
  3. The cleanliness guards provided lunch to 30 people through our foundation
